The Cursed and the Kind is a character-driven short story set in The Broken Expanse, a harsh, collapsing world where survival often comes at the expense of others.

Verrin is an exile — cursed by blood, marked by history, and trying to stay forgotten. But when he stumbles across a group of fleeing civilians, he makes a choice that would lead him onto a different path than he thought.

This is a quiet story about grief, trauma, and the cost of doing the right thing when no one is watching. It doesn’t promise triumph. Just truth.
